Filter period using " Change Period Button"

Dear Experts,

Generally, we can get the value by using the period (Using Change Period Button) in Display mode in a report, it will not work in alter mode. Why is that? Are there any alternative ways to filter based on the given period in a report which is in alter mode?

When in alter mode....database is open.............

It can be refreshed by re-opening the report only.
