I am using Excel's Microsoft Query wizard to connect to Tally 9 via ODBC. The wizard can read the table and its fields but when I try to proceed ahead, I am getting an error [See attached file too]

    "Exiting Tally

    Error in TDL.

    Collection: <Companyname>

    Could not find description!"

Would appreciate if anyone could help me resolving this error.

Thanks for your reply mpal2311. I am a new to all of this so can you be more specific when you say code and excel file? I am on office 2013 so I am using the inbuilt data connect wizard, there is no code that was required.

Your MS office may be 64 bit. or you are using tally 64 bit ms office 32 bit.

in tally folder you can see an exe file called regodbc32.exe or regodbc64.exe . Just run once as administrator it may solve the problem.

Try to use Tally 32 bit. Because I faced a lot problem to conect tally( While I was using 64bit Tally) to Excel using SQL statement in TDL. Especially when importing data from excel to tally.

    Thanks for you replies.

Found a solution to this - Run Tally as Administrator [Right Click Tally.exe and Run as Administrator], open the company in Tally that you want to extract data from using Excel Query and repeat the process. It should work!

please do not install tally in c drive. to access data in c drive ( not only tally but any program) you need Admin Rights.hence you need to run as administrator. Running any programs including tally programs in administrator mode in not good in terms of security. you can run in administrator mode when it is really needed. otherwise it is advised by Microsoft to run in normal mode.

Another reason if any thing happens to OS you may need to format the drive which will result in tally data loss
